Discovering Your Niche + Finding Your People

Alright friends, let’s kick off this new series with one of the most important things you’ll ever figure out in your small business - your niche and your ideal customer (a.k.a ICA)

I know, I know… those words get thrown around a lot. But once you really nail them down, everything else gets so much easier — from creating new products to posting on social media.

So grab your coffee (or sweet tea, if that’s more your vibe ☕️😉) and let’s talk about it.

💕 Discovering Your Niche

Your niche is basically your zone of genius — it’s your lane, your signature thing, the space where you shine brightest.

Think of it like this: if your business was a little shop on Main Street, what would people instantly know you for when they walked by?

The clearer your niche is, the easier it is for people to find you, love you, and remember you.

Here are a few questions to help you figure it out:
✨ What products or services do I love creating the most?
✨ What do I want to be known for?
✨ What makes me stand out from others doing something similar?

Example: Instead of saying you make “handmade accessories,” you might say you make handmade boho hair bows for little girls. See the difference? That’s specific, clear, and searchable.

It tells people exactly what you do — and that’s the kind of clarity that helps your dream customers find you.

💬 And just a quick note: your niche isn’t meant to keep you in a box. It’s simply a way to start off strong and build a solid foundation. Once you’ve perfected your craft or service and built a loyal audience, you can absolutely branch out into new products or ideas. Think of your niche as your launching pad — not your limits. 🚀

👯♀️ Finding Your ICA (Ideal Customer Avatar)

Now that you’ve got your niche in mind, let’s talk about who you’re actually creating for — your ICA, also known as your dream customer.

Your ICA is the person you’d love to have filling your group, shopping your products, and cheering you on. When you know who they are, you can create things that feel like they were made just for them.

Ask yourself:
💭 Who am I creating this product or service for? (moms, brides, pet owners, crafters, etc.)
💭 What do they want most from me? (exclusive deals, custom designs, education, inspiration)
💭 What are their biggest vibes? (boujee, boho, sporty, girly, groovy—you get the idea 😅)

Example:
If you make bows, your ICA might be moms of toddler girls who love boutique-style fashion and want affordable, handmade accessories.

Once you know that, everything you do—from how you photograph your products to the words you use in your captions—can speak directly to her.

💡 Homework Time

I’ve made fun little worksheets to go with this lesson that’ll help you get super clear on your niche and ICA. Print it out, fill it in, and keep it somewhere you can look back at when you’re planning new products or content ideas.

Because trust me—when you know who you’re creating for and what you’re best at, everything just clicks into place. 💫

You’ve got this, friend. Keep showing up, keep learning, and keep being you. The right people will always find your heart and your work. 💕
